Book of Saints – Malachi

(Saint) Prophet (January 14) (5th century B.C.) The last of the Twelve Minor Prophets and the inspired writer of one of the Canonical Books of the Old Testament. The tradition is that he was of Sapha of the Tribe of Zabulon. He is a Post-Exilic Prophet. We have no particulars of his life or of the place of his burial. It is held by some that he is one and the same person with Esdras (Ezra), prominent among the Jews at the time of the Return from the Captivity. The Greeks keep his Feast Day on January 3.
