(Saint) Martyr (April 16) (12th century) A native of the Orkneys, over which he was set as Governor by the King of Norway, the then Overlord of the islands. Saint Magnus was plotted against and in the end cruelly murderecl. He offered up his life for the good of his people and entered into his rest A.D. 1116.
