Book of Saints – Macaille

(Saint) Bishop (April 25) (5th century) A disciple of Saint Mel who became Bishop of Croghan (King’s County). He assisted Saint Mel in receiving Saint Bridgid’s vows, and counselled her to strive to excel in the virtue of mercy. Saint Macaille died about A.D. 489. He seems to be other than his contemporary, Saint Maccai, also a disciple of Saint Patrick, venerated in the Isle of Bute.
