(Saint) Martyr (February 22) (9th century) A native of Friesland, invited to England with other holy and learned men by King Alfred, and made Abbot of Athelingay in Somersetshire, where his zeal for the restoration of Religious discipline led to his being struck down by murderers while kneeling in prayer in his Oratory, A.D. 895.
