(Saint) Martyr (September 7) (4th century) The zealous Christian who (A.D. 303) tore down in Nicomedia, the Imperial residence, the edict of persecution issued against the Christians by the Emperors Diocletian and Maximian Galerius. For this bold, if perhaps rash act, he paid with his life, being put to atrocious torture, and in the end beheaded.
