Book of Saints – John of Bridlington

detail of a painting of Saint John of Bridlington; swiped from Santi e BeatiArticle

(Saint) (October 9) (14th century) A native of Yorkshire, who, abandoning a promising career in the world, left the University of Oxford to become a Canon Regular. For forty years he was to all a shining example of Religious perfection. He was Prior of his monastery when he passed away (A.D. 1379). Though his cultus has been authorised by Holy Church, it does not appear that he was ever formally canonised.
