(Saint) Virgin (December 24) (8th century) The daughter of Dagobert II, King of Austrasia. Irmina was betrothed to a young prince of the Merovingian race, but he died before the marriage could take place. Irmina thereupon founded a convent at a place called Horren, to which she retired. She died (A.D. 710) after a life of wonderful piety and charity. Aided by Saint Irmina, Saint Willibrord, the Apostle of Frisia, began the celebrated Abbey of Epternach.
