(Gomer) (Saint) (October 11) (8th. century) A native of Brabant and relative of Pepin (the founder of the Carolingian dynasty in France) who called him to his Court and entrusted him with important offices. Late in life, on his return from the warlike expeditions in which he had accompanied his master, Gummarus with his wife’s consent, betook himself 130 to a hermit’s cell and passed the last years of his stay upon earth in prayer and penance. The Flemish town of Lierre has grown up around the hermitage where he died (A.D. 774).
