(Saint) Abbot (October 3) (10th century) An Official of noble birth at the Court of the Prince-Counts of Namur, who relinquished prospects of high advancement in the world to become a simple monk at Saint Denis near Paris. Sent back after five years to Namur, he spent the rest of his life in reforming the discipline of the Flemish monasteries, eighteen of which received his Rule. Having obtained the Papal approbation of his Reform, he passed to his reward A.D. 959.
