(Saint) Abbot. (April 14) (2nd century) A Solitary who with his disciples retired into the Desert of Nitria in Egypt. He died, it is said, towards the close of the second century of our era, a notable fact, as showing the Sub-Apostolic origin of the Cenobitic life.
