Book of Saints – Evodius – 6 May


EVODIUS (Saint) Bishop, Martyr (May 6) (1st century) The first Bishop of Antioch, consecrated, it is said, by Saint Peter the Apostle on his departure thence for Rome. By some of the ancients the fact that at Antioch the disciples vere first named Christians (Acts xi. 26) is attributed to Saint Evodius. Tradition makes of him a Martyr (A.D. 67 about). He was followed in the Sec of Antioch by the great Saint Ignatius.
