Book of Saints – Eleutherius – 4 August


ELEUTHERIUS (Saint) Martyr (August 4) (4th century) A Senator and Chamberlain to the Emperor Maximian Galerius at Constantinople. On becoming a Christian he left the Court and retired to a country estate he owned in Bithynia. There he was arrested, tortured and beheaded (before A.D. 310). His body was buried near the place of his martyrdom, and a church afterwards erected there. {See the notice of Saint Eleutherius of Constantinople, Feb. 20).
