Book of Saints – Bolcan


BOLCAN (OLCAN) (Saint) Bishop (February 20) (5th century) Baptised by Saint Patrick and sent by him to study in France, he was subsequently by the same Saint consecrated Bishop of Derkan in the North of Ireland. His school of learning there was one of the most distinguished in the island. He died after A.D. 480. Another Saint Bolcan is venerated in the parish of Kill-Chule in the Diocese of Elphin. He is known as Saint Olcan of Kilmoyle.
