Book of Saints – Biblis

BIBLIS (Saint) Virgin Martyr (June 2) (2nd century) One of the Martyrs of Lyons, under the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (A.D. 177). These were the Bishop Saint Photinus, the virgin Saint Blandina, and forty-four other Christians. Saint Biblis was put to the torture to force her to admit the crime of cannibalism very commonly at that period imputed to Christians. At the outset, terrified at the horrors of the torture chamber, she showed signs of weakness, but strengthened by prayer and the example of her fellow-sufferers, she in the end bravely laid down, like them, her life for Christ.
