Book of Saints – Bettelin

BETTELIN (BETHLIN, BETHELM) (September 9) (Saint) Confessor (8th century) Supposed to be the same as the Saint Bertram whose memory is preserved at Ham in Staffordshire, where there exist a chapel, a spring and a well, each called after him. He was a disciple of Saint Guthlac and lived in a hermitage near Croyland. It is presumed that his relics were conveyed to Stafford before the destruction of Croyland by the Danes, and that this accounts for the veneration in Catholic times of Saint Bettelin in that neighbourhood. We have no means of fixing the precise date of the death of this Saint.
