Book of Saints – Antiochus – 13 December


ANTIOCHUS (Saint) Martyr (December 13) (2nd century) A Sardinian Martyr, by profession a physician, who suffered under the Emperor Hadrian, about A.D. 110. He is an object of popular devotion in Sardinia, where the place of his martyrdom is called the Isola di Sant’ Antioco. There are details of his Passion in one of the codices preserved in the Vatican. His name appears in the Litany of Saints of the medical profession, compiled by William du Val, Archdeacon of Paris.
