ANTHEROS (Saint) Pope, Martyr (January 3) (3rd century) A Greek who occupied the Chair of Saint Peter for one year, that of the Consuls Severus and Quintilian (A.D. 235). He was put to death by the tyrant Maximus for refusing to deliver up a volume in which he had registered the “Acts of the Martyrs,” and was buried in the catacombs of Saint Callistus (A.D. 236).
