AMMONARIA, MERCURIA, DIONYSIA and another AMMONARIA (Saints) Martyrs (December 12) (3rd century) A band of holy women of Alexandria, who suffered as Christians about the same time as Saints Alexander and Epimachus, during the Decian persecution (A.D. 250). Mercuria is described as an aged woman, Dionysia as the mother of many children, and the two Ammonarias as young girls. They were all beheaded; but no mention is made of the previous torture so customary as to be almost general in such cases.
