Book of Saints – Aldegunda


ALDEGUNDA (ORGONNE) (Saint) Virgin (January 30) (7th century) The Patron Saint of Maubeuge on the Sambre, in the North of France, and the foundress of its famous Abbey. She was of the Royal House of the Merovingians and trained to holiness by Saint Amandus, Bishop of Maestricht, from whom she received the veil of religion. She died of cancer about A.D. 680, and was succeeded as Abbess by her niece, Saint Adeltrude.
