New Catholic Dictionary – Blessed Notker Balbulus


Born Jonswil, Saint Gall, c.840; died 912. Monk. He composed a martyrology, and a metrical biography of Saint Gall, and is probably the author of the “Gesta Caroli Magni,” a collection of legends. He introduced the sequence, a new kind of religious lyric, into Germany. Beatified, 1512. Feast, 6 April.
