Profile
Seventh of a family of twelve children. He joined the Trappists in 1974, and moved to the monastery of Tamié in Algeria in 1987. Ordained a priest in 1990. Served as novice master of his community. He was one of the seven monks at the Atlas Abbey of Tibhirine near Médéa, Algeria who were kidnapped over the night of 26–27 March 1996 during the Algerian Civil War. They were held captive for two months, then murdered for being Christian. Martyr.
