main article for Saint Mochua, or Cronan, of BallaArticle

(7th century)

[The day of his death is unknown. He is here mentioned because of the similarity of his name to that of Saint Mochua, of Teach Mochua. His life is legendary.]

Saint Mochua, or Cronan, was the third son of Began, a man of good family. As a child, he was despised by his parents, and sent to keep sheep. But Saint Congal, passing by his father’s house, called the boy to follow him, and made him a monk. Saint Mochua founded the monastery of Balla in Connaught. He departed to the Lord in the fifty-sixth year of his age.
