A Garner of Saints – Saint Luke

Born at Antioch and reputed to have been one of the seventy disciples. He followed Paulmartyrdom of that saint. By profession he was a physician, but he was also a skilful painter, and at Rome there are two portraits said to be by his hand, one of Christ and the other of the Virgin Mary, preserved in the church of Saint Maria Maggiore. Luke died in Bithynia in the seventy-fourth year of his age. Patron of painters. 18th October.
